INTERVIEW WITH LOUISE VIDELYCK

Louise Videlyck is one of our Swedish designers. She is based in the western part of Sweden, not far from where Elle used to live. In this interview she shares a bit about herself.

Alex&Elle:
“When did you start to get interested in design?“

Louise:
“Design has always been a part of my life. Growing up, I was always surrounded by fabrics, patterns, buttons etc. as my parents ran a fashion design business. As an adult I worked as a purchaser in the business and was exposed to many international textile designs.”

Alex&Elle:
“You are a painter as well as a designer, did one thing lead to the other or did you always want to do both?”

Louise:
“Colour and form have always inspired me. My Grandmother was a painter and I spent a lot of time in her studio. At school I studied Art and Design. After working with fashion a few years, I studied to become a ceramist. I then worked in lots of different areas, all with the common theme of colours and design. From then on that has been my main focus, but I still do a bit of interior and graphic design, photography etc. I paint whenever I feel like it and have the time.

I find it hard to categorise art and design. For me they go together. You can apply colour and form to anything. ”

Alex&Elle:
“We particularly love your designs AQUALOTIC and FRUTTI, can you tell us anything about them?”

Louise:
“FRUTTI is a design that I hold very close to my heart with its bold colours and thriving shapes. AQUALOTIC symbolizes love for colour; its abstract aqua forms with a touch of flowers creates a beautiful impression. Both designs are joyful which is what my work is all about.”

Alex&Elle:
“What are you working on right now?”

Louise:
“I am in the middle of creating a new textile collection to be launched next year.”

Alex&Elle:
“Anything else you would like to share with us?”

Louise:
“I live on the west coast of Sweden and I have twin boys turning 8 this year. In my spare time I ride and play tennis. I enjoy the good things in life but equally the simple things like family and being close to nature. The nature with all its colours and shapes makes me truly happy; in the forest as well as by the ocean."
