Apart from Christmas, Midsummer is the most important holiday in the Swedish calendar. And for some, the very most important one.
While the winter soltice is coming up here in Australia, Sweden will, on the same day, celebrate their longest day of the year.
The successful Midsummer never-ending lunch party formula involves flowers in your hair, dancing around a pole, singing songs while drinking unsweetened, flavoured schnapps and having pickled herring served with delightful new potatoes, chives and sour cream; followed by homemade strawberry cake.
To get a taste of Swedish Midsummer, visit the Swedish Church in Toorak on Saturday the 24th of June at 12pm.
